For the past two days, we have been learning about some rules around the chemistry lab to ensure that we can avoid any major incidents while we conduct experiments. Something we did to put those rules in a creative way was to partner up with someone and create posters exhibiting one of the rules. Down below is one that my partner Griffin and I made, with help from Annika as well.
Today in Chemistry, we watched a hour long video where this scientist was being interviewed and brought up some interesting topics during the discussion. Something I found particularly striking was when the scientist was asked whether knowledge was a good thing and if knowing is better than not knowing, and throughout the interview he kept saying it was undoubtedly "...better to know". This intrigued me because it's something I myself think frequently about in day to day life. I often contradict myself on what I want in terms of this. I identify myself to be someone who likes to be "real" and direct with people, and I expect the same from others. No matter how harmful something may be, I usually prefer to be told things straight so that I know what's happening or what I'm up against. Overall, I like to "know" things. However, sometimes I think about technology and how everyone is on their phones and games, while we could be outside doing physical activity and interacting more with others. That's where I think that sometimes we're too curious and "knowledgeable" for our own good. With all this knowledge, sometimes we apply it in the "wrong" way such as creating weapons for war. I think knowledge is a good thing, but only when applied correctly. I feel that there should be balance between knowledge and being naive, as I'm sure that the more horrible truths you know about humanity, the sadder you get. There might be people out there that are not very "smart" but at least they live happily, and in the end I think that's all that matters. I think too much knowledge isolates us from others, and makes us forget our beginnings. Being aware might be a good thing, but it depends on who you are.
